PA sounded like some sort of bad horror film, the chocolate factory closed in all. Yay for Merlin, Cesar and U-Turn!
This weekend had alot going on, so I delayed my blog post because I knew it would take some time.
I guess I should start from the begininng...
Friday morning it decided to snow like mad and I was really worried that Jess wouldn't be able to come to the PA convention with me... I had Andrew pack a bag just incase.
Luckily, 5 minutes before we were scheduled to leave, Jess' parent reluctantly said "yes"... I called her up and screamed "WERE GOING! WE'RE GOING!!!!".... she wasn't very impressed.
It was a long wait in Oakville, but I knew the roads were way worse out Kitchener way, so I waited impatiently...
After stuffing 13 rabbits into the car, we were off! We were actually going, and we were going to have so much fun!...New Tires on the car, full tank of gas... going to a show with 12,000 rabbits!! woo hoo!
We arrived in Binghamton New York for a rest stop (meaning we had 1.5 hours to sleep and get dressed for the next day of showing)
Saturday morning was great, we drove another 3 hours and finally arrived at the show... it was HUGE!! there was a gigantic room just for Wool breeds (I really wish all shows did that)...
All our rabbits did fantastic. Merlin got his first leg winning 1st in the Shaded Junior bucks class. Cesar Came in 2nd Agouti Sr Bucks, and U-Turn came in 2nd in his class!!!... I was not expecting that!! There were some outstanding jersies at that show. Brian Caudill even made the 8 hour drive from Tennesee (I really wanted to take all his rabbits home with me!)... I was so excited, he liked my tans... we're gonna do a trade at convention... yippee!!!
Jess did even better winning BOS with her English angora Buck... She got a GiNormous Trophy for BOS.. which is understandable considering how huge this show was.
After the show we packed up and headed towards our second hotel, which was in Hershey , PA.... the towns' called Hershey for a very good reason!... They have a Chocolate factory!!... With the thought of Oompa Loompas running through my head we drove the 15 minutes towards hershey... I noticed my battery light was on, but figured I'd just check the manual when we got to the hotel.
We arrived in hersey and my dash started to fade,... hmm, that's odd...then the radio gradually got quieter... at this point I was really hoping we would find the hotel...FAST! Luckily the hotel appeared over the hill and we rolled, ever so slowly, into the parking lot.... I was doomed.
So just to recap... at this point there's too young girls that have had little to no sleep, 8 hours from home with 13 rabbits in a car that doesn't start... you can see how it was so easy to stay positive....
we made our few phone calls to let the parents know what was happening.... but this wasn't going to ruin our trip!! there was still a chocolate factory to be toured!! I don't know what made Jessica go along with me, but I guess the idea of walking a few miles in the freezing cold, with night time fast approaching to a chocolate factory sounded appealing? We started our trek down into town, and half way we both thought how stupid this was... but hey, we were already half way there!... we can't turn back now!!!... after what seemed longer than moses' walk accross the desert... we arrived at the Hershey factory... but, ofcourse... a Huge sign hanging in the door read the last thing I wanted to see ..... "CLOSED"... my mind raced.. but what about the oompa loompas and the chocolaty river?? and the Sheep that made cotton candy?!
Let's just say it was a very quiet depressing walk back..uphill.. to the hotel.
That night we received call after call with suggestions on how to make my battery charge... maybe the lines were corroded, .. maybe the the cables just needed to be jiggled?.. we were all just hoping it wasn;t the alternator.
The next morning me and jess took a chance and drove the car to Wal Mart (the night rest probably gave the battery a little juice) ... No Radio, No heat, No Wipers... no opening windows!... it was looking grim as my car started to wrench... but then just ahead on the right.... WAL-MART!!!
We rolled over to the Tire and Lube Express where a bunch of grease monkeys were hanging around pretending not to notice us..... It probably would have helped if we didn't look like zombies. We told them about our car troubles and the response we get back is "Sorry, we can't help you"... with a very heavy US accent. As we make our way through wal-mart we get a call from Heather (Jess' mom)...
"Dad, talked to Ben at the Tire place and he's going to replace ur battery and test your charging system"... yay progess! We went back over to see this Ben charactor... Skinniest guy with very few teeth (Just imagine Goofy from the Disney cartoons...with the exact same accent) as he spotted us... he said "Well,... I guess I'm in trouble now!"... I don't know what her dad said to him, but whatever it was... it worked!!... Gotta love parents lol.
It took an awful long time to install a battery, so we decided to have some fun!... We "tested" all the bikes, scooters, skateboards, hoola hoops, and volley balls... and managed to only hit one person in the head!... a personal best.
Our car was done and the news wasn't good... it was my alternator. We had to stay another night because nothing was open on sunday... We figured we'd have enough time to get back over to the show and get in atleast one of the shows... no such luck almost everything was done, but they were still doing jersies... we pulled up and ran my guys in... since I had no time to prepare my coats were really messy and full of hay... but Cesar still managed to come in 3rd, Merlin 2nd, and U-Turn 2nd!.. woo hoo!
We just had enough juice to get to this awful little motel... The Budget Motor Lodge Inn... sounds classy don't it? We made the best of it, we had a bunny show of our own and went out for dinner... and went to a dollar store (which by the way, was the highlight of jessica's trip) we even somehow managed to steal dessert from a buffet without knowing...
Monday morning was spent calling around to find a part for my car, I have a 2005 chevy Aveo so parts are not readily available.... after a few hours we came to th conclusion that the part I needed was $430.00.... but wait it gets better!... We get to the shop... and I lost my debit card!!!... the next few hours were spent tranfering money between a million accounts... me and jess usually just bring enough to squeek by on our little adventures and this $600 repair... plus new battery and extra hotel stay... was not exactly in the budget... so I wanna say thank you to everyone who helped... I'm so happy to have so many people who care about us!... all was good and we made it out of PA... it was a very long trip but it sure was memorable!
Oh ya!... Waltz is now living in West Virginia with Jennea Rollins and one of her bunnies has come to live with me... Miss Kitty (how cute is that?)... Thanks Jennea, it was great meeting you, and thank you so much for letting me plug my phone into your car lol!
Looks like I'll have to hold off on the US shows for awhile... but, I guess that means I'll be around for some of the small ontario ones... so it should be fun!
