PA sounded like some sort of bad horror film, the chocolate factory closed in all. Yay for Merlin, Cesar and U-Turn!
Well, let's just say Jessica has some killer negotiating skills. She talked me into going to the Lansing, MI Spring State Convention show this past weekend and I was very reluctant. All my bunnies were either pregnant or molting so but I managed to bring 3. Cesar, Merlin and Hope (my new holland)
Miss Mother Nature had heard about said trip (even tho we planned it 2 days before we left....news travels fast!) and it decided to snow and rain ice pellets. So traffic.... was not fun! We were supposed to get to lansing by 11, but we got there closer to 3am, and the hotel lost our reservations to boot! after settling into a room my mind was finally at ease, I just wanted to sleep!!
We woke up at 6 and headed over to the show... there was no space! luckily Jessica met up with a lady she had been emailing back and forth with (Gina) and she made us some room beside her...
It was a very slow morning, all the youth had to show before they would start the open show, but it gave us some time to chat and groom jess' bunnies.
Gina was a riot, one of the nicest people I've ever met..... and it didn't hurt that se has some stellar bunnies! (She breeds English Angoras and holland lops....and soon fuzzy lops
)
Finally it was time to start showing, I don't think Jessica's rabbits have ever looked so good! Needless to say she really cleaned up, BOV and BOSV in both white and coloured, and then BOB with her home bred Doe Bbeary's Calliope (pronounced kal-eye-o-pee)
Then it was my turn... Cesar was pretty molty so I didn't expect him to do well, there were 7 agoutis and low and behold BOG!!! I skipped over to Jessica all excited.. BOG!! BOG!! another leg for cesar! Woo Hoo!! Then it was merlin's turn, there were only 3 shaded junior bucks, but he managed to pull a first place out of his hat... good job merlin!
It was a very long time going through all the jersies but there was an AOV that looked like a painting, it was just a little too perfect, and a broken doe that thought she was the shizzle... she posed like no other bunny I have ever seen... where do these picture perfect bunnies come from?!?!?
Finally it was time for the BOB judging, ofcourse the AOV and the broken were taken out and posed beautifully, and the judge went through the rest and when it was Cesar's turn to be looked over ofcourse with flattened out like a pancake (had to be one of the most unflatering poses ever) and then he was put back in his coop. The judge took a long hard look at the AOV and Broken posed so perfectly beside each other... then with his eyes still on that AOV he turned and pulled Cesar out of his coop and sat him on the table.... I turned to Jess and muttered "what's happening?" my heart was thumping so loud I almost missed hearing him announce "BOB goes to the Agouti Sr Buck!"...am I hearing right? am I dreaming... before I even knew what was happening Jessica had tears running down her face and was hugging me....Cesar had won!!!! OMG... that means me... I had won BOB!!! sure all the credit goes to Helen Mckie for breeding such a great buck.... but YAY!!!!!!!!! there were some of the nicest jersies there and I'm just in awe at the whole thing, This is my first BOB in the states, and Michigan to boot, Jersey Capitol!
I was on a high the rest of the weekend, we went out for dinner with Gina that night, her hubby had found a denny's on the net that he said they could meet us at... but ofcourse , I can't drive straight there without some sort of adventure, no that just wouldn't be right. We got to the said road that this denny's was on... drove 5 miles in one direction then drove 5 miles the other way. Jessica is very used to me being like a man and not wanting to stop for directions, but she insisted we stop. I run into the gas station and as "Where's this denny's"..... and he replied "Denny's?... There hasn't been a Denny's in these parts for atleast 2 years"..... Go Figure, and ofcourse we, don't have a phone on us to call Gina... no ofcourse... how could anything have gone wrong? we were just going to denny's! (Me and Jess never remember how accident proned we are), so we drove back to the hotel and found 7 missed phone calls from Gina... her and her hubby were extremely kind and WAITED to eat... by this time it was almost 2 hours after our original "date" and they WAITED!! How nice are they?!? The dinner was great, we learned alot about each other and our bunnies and then we hit the hay... so exhausted (winning takes alot out of ya lol)
The next day I was pretty darn bored, it was only jessica showing in the specialty, but I used my time productively and helped Gina and Jess prepare for the angora specialty.... Jessica cleaned up again Winning all the same as the day before aswell as best overall wool and BEST ANGORA IN SHOW!!! this girl is on a roll and I really can't wait to see how she does at convention. that's pretty much it alot of oter little things... but probably only things I find funny or exciting.
YAY Cesar!! I'll put a pick of him up with his trophy tonght.
